Rutlandshire by John Speed 1676

Superb original John Speed map of Rutlandshire published by Thomas Basset and Richard Chiswell in London in 1676. A beautiful map but with some issues, see below.

The map has quite early hand colouring and is on laid watermarked paper. The bottom left hand corner has a missing piece to the border; the top left corner is close trimmed. To the right hand side the top corner has a small tear just encroaching onto the image, the bottom right hand corner has a small repair to the border.

To the left and slightly below the town of Coln, is an early burn hole and there is a little parting to the issued centre fold at the top. There is also some old tape along the bottom of the central fold. Finally there is some minor creasing but generally for the age the map is in reasonable condition and matted and framed will look quite stunning. If you need further photographs just let me know. Double click image for a more detailed view. Size of image 500mm x 380mm.

Super engraving representing Admiral Edward Boscawen's victory at the Battle of Cape Lagos, off Portugal in 1759. The picture was published in France, French text, and was engraved by Jean Simond in 1805. It could date anywhere from late Victorian up till the 1950's but more likely the turn of the century. It is a stunning picture which will look magnificent framed.

Please note that this picture is laid on card and as such postage costs will be higher due to its size. UK postage will be £10.00, overseas charges on request.

Early aquatint of the 'Capture of the Mahonesa, Oct 13th 1796'' from Jenkin's Naval Achievements of Great Britain published in 1816.
