Very early copper engraved map ‘Gallia Lugdunensis’ France by Philippe Briet from ‘Parallela Geographiae vetteris et novae published by Philippo Brietio in 1648. We have a number of othe French regions from this publication in our ‘World Maps’ section.

The map, which has fine later hand colouring, is on laid paper with a central fold as issued. There is a light crease through the map but this is quite hard to spot, otherwise in good condition. Double click image for a more detailed view. Size of image 260mm x 140mm.

Map of the new Continent, North & South America circa 1770

Quite a rare early copper engraved map titled ‘Map of the New Continent’ sub-titled ‘exhibiting its greatest diametrical length from the River Plate to Lake Assiniboils’. Engraved by Andrew Bell the map dates from around 1770. The map goes from Hudson’s Bay through the United States of America down to Cape Horn.

Afrique by Pierre M Lapie 1812, scarce

Early copper plate engraved map of Africa published in 1812 for the ‘Atlas complet du précis de la geographie universelle de M. Malte-Brun’. The map was engraved by Jean-Baptiste Camouin, the cartographer Pierre M Lapie. This is an interesting and very rare map.

Original 17th century copper engraved map by Philip Cluverius of the Northern region of the Adriatic Sea, Croatia, Bosnia and Slovenia titled ‘Veteris et Nova Pannoniae at Illyrici Descriptio’. The map dates to 1697 and has a fine cartouche bottom left.

The map, which has later hand colouring, is on laid paper and a little grubby around the borders with a small piece missing to the left hand border, not affecting the image and easily matted out. This map features ABD-EL-Kader and Dey D'Alger with views of Alger and Constantine in the bottom corners.
 
The map is coloured and apart from being a little grubby around the borders, not affecting the image, is in good condition. Size of engraved area 225mm x 180mm.

Plan of the Camp of Tarragona Spain C1745
 
Early Isaac Basire copper plate engraved map of 'Plan of the Camp of Tarragona' in the historical region of Catalonia in Spain. The map was produced for Mr Tindal's Continuation of Mr Rapkin's History of England around 1745.
 
The map shows the cities of Tarragona, Reus, La Silva and Alcouva and also shows that the hills marked with a cross are impracticable for cavalry.  
 
The map, which is hand coloured, has folds as issued but also a join. The join has been expertly undertaken and looks more like a fold than an actual join. If you enlarge the screen image it runs vertically through the left hand ship. Otherwise in good condition. Size of engraved area 460mm x 360mm.
