Early steel engraving from 'The Ports, Harbours, Watering Places and Picturesque Scenery of Great Britain published by W E Finden in London in 1842. The picture was engraved by R Brandard from an original drawing by W H Bartlett. Super view of Greenwich Hospital with the River Thames in the background.
 
The picture, which has later hand colouring, has a mark to the right hand border but generally in good condition. Size of engraved area 180mm x 120mm.

The Pool of London by Henry George Walker C1925  
 
Super original etching of the Pool of London by George Henry Walker dating from around 1925. Born in Birchfield Birmingham in 1876 he became an active etcher in 1921 when he exhibited at the Royal Birmingham Society. His most successful etchings were his studies of the harbours of Tenby and Brixham. He died in 1932. Fine view of the River Thames with tugs, barges and freighters. 
 
The picture is discoloured as are nearly all the Walker etchings but otherwise in good condition. Double click image for a more detailed view. Size of engraved area 280mm x 170mm.

Super original etching of the Pool of London by George Henry Walker dating from around 1925. Very scarce hand tinted lithograph of the 'Railway Bridge over the Regents Canal' by J C Bourne. Super view of the canal with Thames sailing barges in the foreground and an early narrow boat. Published in 1838 the picture was lithographed by John Cooke Bourne for his renowned work 'Drawings of the London and Birmingham Railway'.  
 
The picture has a few grubby marks, mainly to the border and a brown line around it from a previous mount, this will matt out easily. Otherwise in good condition. Double click image for a more detailed view. Size of engraved area 375mm x 240mm.

Capture of the Mahonesa October 13th 1796

Superb early aquatint of the Capture of Mahonesa, October 13th 1796. The engraving comes from Jenkin's Naval Achievements of Great Britain published in 1816. This work is still regarded as one of the finest monuments to Nelson's navy ever produced. The picture is engraved by T Sutherland from a painting by T Whitcombe. A very rare print.
 
The Mahonesa was a Spanish ship commanded by Don Thomas Agalde, a British Captain. She was captured by H.M.S. Terpsichore, commanded by Richard Bowen, around Cabo De Gata in the Western Mediteranean.
 

The picture, which has original hand colouring, is in good condition. Size of engraved area; 260mm x 180mm.

Superb early aquatint of the 'Defence of the Centurion in Vizagapatam Road, September 18th 1804'. Super scene from the Battle of Vizagapatam India between the British and French Squadrons. The picture is engraved by Thomas Sutherland who engraved many of the plates for Jenkin's Naval Achievements of Great Britain published in 1816, regarded as one of the finest monuments to Nelson's navy ever produced. The picture was published by Whitmore and Fenn in London 1818.
 

The picture, which has original hand colouring, has some issues; the engraving is laid on card and has some marks and creasing, the most prominent being at the bottom running between the O & N in Centurion and just onto the image. Price does however reflect condition. Size of engraved area; 210mm x 130mm.

A Map of the River Thames, J Stockdale 1796
 
Fine copper plate engraved map titled 'A Map of the River Thames' published by J Stockdale in Piccadilly in 1796. The map was engraved by S Neele in the Strand, London. With a statute of miles the map starts at the mouth of the Thames and goes through London and ends in Oxford.
 
The map, which is hand coloured, has pressed folds with some reinforcing to the borders. Double click image for a closer view. Size of engraved area 850mm x 220mm.

Shellness is in Kent on the Isle of Sheppy. Anthony Flemming is a listed artist and a member of the Wapping Group of Artists, he is also the son of the well known painter Rowland Hilder.

Rare early copper plate engraving by the well know map maker Richard Blome 'Horology or Dyalling'. The plate is dedicated to 'To the Worshipfull Thomas Stringer of Ivy Church, near Salisbury in Wiltshire'. References in the plate refer to the Meridian line, longitude etc, all pre John Harrison. 
 
The picture, which has later hand colouring, is a bit scruffy around the edges with some margin tears but generally in reasonable condition. Size of engraved area 380mm x 230mm.

Early steel engraving of Ramsgate in Kent from 'The Ports, Harbours, Watering Places and Picturesque Scenery of Great Britain published by W E Finden in London in 1842. De Groote Zee En Rivier-Vis-Markt C1670

Very early copper plate engraving by Isaak Commelin dating from around 1670. I know very little about this engraving other than it is the Dam with the fish market seen from the west.
 
The picture, which has later hand colouring, has a small repaired tear top right encroaching around 10mm onto the image. there is also some minor repaired tears to the bottom border but these will mount out. Generally the picture is in good condition for its age. Size of engraved area 320mm x 250mm.

The Viking at Victoria Dock by Douglas Ion Smart C1935

Super original pencil drawing 'Viking Victoria Dock' by Douglas Ion Smart. This was the barque Viking, built around 1907 which was know to have docked at the Royal Victoria Dock in London around 1933. At the time of berthing she was probably carrying wheat from Australia. Douglas Ion Smart R.E. 1879-1970 was an etcher and watercolourist who studied under Sir Frank Short R.A, and exhibited at the Royal Academy over 70 times. He is well known for his Thames dock etchings which are very atmospheric. Signed in ink by the artist.
