Union Castle Line poster C1950

Super poster of 'Union Castle Line Royal Mail Motorship (20,000 tons)'. The ship looks like the Carnarvon Castle and is from an original painting by Maurice Randall. The poster dates from the 1950's, a super image of an iconic shipping line.

The picture does have some issues; there are a number of zig-zag creases, a tiny hole in the sky and some water damage to the borders which does mount out. The poster should also have a secondary border stating at the top 'Union Castle Line' and along the bottom 'Royal Mail Service to South & East Africa'. I assume these were trimmed off to suit a smaller frame. However this is still a very desirable and rare print which without the damage would be valued at between £200- 300. Size of engraved area 650mm x 430mm.

Manuscript Discharge Document H.M.S Shrewsbury 1697

Rare manuscript document from HMS Shrewsbury dated 1697/8. The document is titled, from what we can make out, ' Account of men discharged from his Majesty's ship Shrewsbury in the months of February and March 1697/8'.

HMS Shrewsbury was a three deck third rate line of battleship of 80 guns built in Portsmouth dockyard in 1695. She commissioned that year as flagship of Admiral Lord Berkeley and led several bombardments of French Channel ports, the bases of the French privateers that were so damaging to English and Dutch trade.

In August 1704 she was at the heart of the Anglo-Dutch line at the battle of Velez Malaga, "the sharpest day's service that I ever saw" according to the British commander, Admiral George Rooke, taking heavy casualties. She was broken up in 1711.

The document is a bit frayed as you would expect and starting to fade but a very rare item. Size of engraved area 500mm x 380mm.
