Battle off Cabareta Point 1801 

Early aquatint of the 'Battle off Cabareta Point 12th July 1801 from Jenkin's Naval Achievements of Great Britain published in 1816. This work was first published in 1814 and it is still regarded as one of the finest monuments to Nelson's navy ever produced. The picture is engraved by T Sutherland from a painting by T Whitcombe. 
 

The picture, which has original hand colouring, is a little grubby around the borders but generally in good condition. Double click image for a more detailed view. Size of engraved area; 260mm x 170mm.

The London Docks, 1803, scarce
 
Very rare copper plate map of the London Docks 1796. The map is titled 'A Plan shewing the situation of the Public Foreign Sufferance Wharfs within the limits set out by the Commissioners of His MAJESTY'S CUSTOMS and Particularly Specified and Deemed by them to be PUBLIC WHARFS, on the 13th May 1789'. Sub-titled 'Survey'd by Order of the Committee of Suferance Wharfingers, March 1796 BY W FELLOWS, Tooley St' Southwark'. The map is headed 'Report (1796) on providing accommodation for the trade and shipping of the Port of London. Engraved by James Basire and printed in 1803.
 
A super map/plan with a table showing the number of feet each wharf takes up, the tons each warehouse will contain, the number of tons each yard will contain and the number of hogsheads of sugar each warehouse will store. The map was ordered by the House of Commons. The wharf's listed are: Chamberlain's, Cotton's, Hay's, Beal's, Griffin's, Symon's, Davis's & Bull's, Stanton's, Hartley's, Pearson's, Holland's & Butler's, Cole's, Carrington's, Hogarth's 3 Wharf's, Scott's, Meriton's, Iron Gate, St Catherine's, Watson's, Briant's and Downe's.

Very rare folding copper plate engraved map of London on heavy paper by William Faden. The map is titled ' A Topographical map of the country twenty miles round London, planned from a scale of two miles to an inch'. The map was published in Charing Cross and is dated September 1800.
 
The map, which has original hand colouring, has a small hole in the centre where the folds meet, probably not noticeable once laid flat and framed. There is also remnants of old tape along some of the folds, no tears, but again not noticeable as the map is on heavy paper. Finally the outer edges of the paper are a little ragged. Superb original limited edition etching, number 39 of 75 showing H.M.S. Victory in Portsmouth Dockyard. The picture is by William Gunning King (1859-1940) and is dated 1927. Gunning King was a painter and etcher who exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy. He also illustrated for Punch and the Graphic and served as a war artist in the First World War. Signed in pencil by the artist.

By Tunbridge and Ashford with a branch to Tunbridge Wells and adapted to other important places on the South Eastern Coast'. Surveyed under the direction of Henry R Palmer Civil Engineer F.B.S by Peter W Barlow 1835. The map was engraved by J Basure. A scarce map.

Fine quality steel engraving 'Long Room in the Custom House, Payment of the Customs'. Published by J Mead in Gough Square, Fleet Street London between 1841-44 for 'London Interiors' the picture was engraved by H Melville from an original painting by T H Shepherd. The Custom House was on the River Thames close to where Tower Bridge is now.
 
The picture, which has later hand colouring, is in good condition. Size of engraved area 190mm x 130mm.

Sainsbury's Homebase used one of her etchings for their gift voucher and the Newlyn Gallery in Cornwall included one of her oil paintings in their Centenary book. Lynmouth Beach etching by Henry George Walker 

Original drypoint etching by Henry George Walker, ''Lynmouth Beach'. Born in Birchfield Birmingham in 1876 he became an active etcher in 1921 when he exhibited at the Royal Birmingham Society. His most successful etchings were his studies of the harbours of Tenby and Brixham. He died in 1932. Super picture with fisherman in the foreground.

Original drypoint etching by Henry George Walker, ''Lynmouth Beach'. Born in Birchfield Birmingham in 1876 he became an active etcher in 1921 when he exhibited at the Royal Birmingham Society. His most successful etchings were his studies of the harbours of Tenby and Brixham. He died in 1932. Super picture with fisherman in the foreground.
Suburbs of London, Greenwich C1860 
 
Rare town plan of Greenwich 'Suburbs of London Sheet 2 Greenwich & Co' drawn and engraved by Edward Weller and dating from around 1860. Super plan showing Trafalgar Road with Greenwich Park and the Royal Observatory on one side and the Royal Naval College the other. It also shows the River Thames and the Isle of Dogs.
 
The map, which has later hand colouring, has a few repaired tears around the edges, one just onto the image and a small crease top left. The map also has a vertical crease/fold, not very prominent. Rare early copper plate map ' Langley's new Map of Kent'. Published by Langley and Belch at 273 High Street Borough, London in 1816. The top vignette shows the Kentish Arms with the mode of gathering hops, the bottom picture of a dockyard. A scarce map of Kent.

Published in 1751 According to Act of Parliament by G Bickham. Super birds eye view.
