Port Glasgow C1842

Early steel engraving of Port Glasgow from 'The Ports, Harbours, Watering Places and Picturesque Scenery of Great Britain published by W E Finden in London in 1842. The picture was engraved by J W Appleton from an original drawing by W H Bartlett. Super view of the harbour and the Clyde.
 
The picture, which has later hand colouring, is very slightly grubby around the border which will mount out but generally in good condition. Size of engraved area 180mm x 120mm.

Saxon Great Britain by Mallet 1705
 
Scarce copper plate engraving 'Heptarchie des Saxons' from the French edition of Allain Mallet's 'Description I'Univers' published in Paris in 1705. The map shows England divided by Saxon regions.
 
The picture which has later hand colouring, is a bit grubby around the border as you would expect and has a tiny worm hole in Kent, noticable when held up to the light. Otherwise in very good condition. Size of engraved area 150mm x 100mm.

Scarce copper plate engraving 'Heptarchie des Saxons' from the French edition of Allain Mallet's 'Description I'Univers' published in Paris in 1705. The map shows England divided by Saxon regions.
Battle of Port Praya Bay 
 
Scarce copper plate engraving of showing the 'Station of the Ships in Port Praya Bay when the engagement began between Com G Johnstone & M'de Suffrien'. The battle took place during the American Revolutionary Wars on the 6th April 1781 with the British Squadron lead by George Johnstone and the the French Squadron by Bailli de Suffrien. Published in the Gent Magazine around 1790.
 
Some of the British fleet shown in the plan includes H.M.S Rattlesnake, Porpoise, Mercury, Active, Monmouth, Diana, Isis, Fortitude, Osterly, Quuen, Lock etc. 
 
The plan is a little grubby around the borders but generally in good order. Folds as issued. Size of engraved area 250mm x 155mm.

This ship was Captain George Vancouver''s flagship, a sloop of war. It was named after Cook''s Discovery and converted into a prison hulk in 1818. The picture comes from Cooke''s Shipping and Craft published in 1829.
 
The picture has some very light staining but generally in good condition. Size of engraved area 190mm x 150mm.

The picture does has some light creasing as you would expect from an engraving of this age, central fold as issued. Size of engraved area 340mm x 220mm.

Germany 1760
 
Early copper plate map ' Principatus Calenberg et Gruben, Hagen....'. The map is a representation of the area around Hanover, Hildersheim, Gottingen and Paderborn in Germany by Alberti Caroli Seuteri and dates from around 1760. 
 
The map, which has original hand colouring, has been re-margined and also has some slight restoration but is still a superb rare map with the price relecting the condition. Size of engraved area 250mm x 180mm.

Early folding steel engraved map of Persia, probably from James Bell's ' A System of Geography, Popular and Scientific, or a Physical, Political and Statistical Account of the World and its Various Divisions'. Published in 1839 by Archibald Fullarton in Glasgow.

The map, which has later hand colouring, is in good condition. Size of engraved area; 240mm x 190mm.
